Clive Rowe's Ode to John and Doug

John is very good at poetry,

But the muse never gifted me,

So for you that is a pity,

‘Cause I’ve written this ditty,

It’s terrible, and isn’t the slightest witty,

John and Doug are vigorous 49ers,

But when he heard of our friends arrival,

Stalin was concerned at his survival,

So to show he weren’t afraid,

A demonstration explosion he made,

Joe 1 was his nuclear bomb,

Which he exploded with much aplomb,

And so NATO we Allies did form,

All this because two boys were born.

April is the month of Spring,

The time for new life to begin,

Challenges set and guts to win,

But new challenges can make you very thin.

So let us celebrate these special days,

Before John and Doug go on their ways,

And lets all get very fat,

And eat a lot why we chat.

Off you go on your way to wend,

To John O’Groats from Doug End,

The wandering minstrels many ear to bend,

Past mountains, towns, lakes and burns,

Until we can say again Many Happy Returns!
